Root knot nematode
Caused by: Meloidogyne incognitaProblem Category: Nematode
Symptoms: Below ground we can see galls on the roots due to female nematode feeding. Above ground the plants are stunted, yellow and patchy in growth. Severely infested plant may die before harvest.
Comments: The galls are formed by female nematode feeding resulting in formation of giant cells.
Management: Deep summer ploughing helps in reducing nematode population. Follow crop rotation with nematode antagonistic plants. Grow resistant varieties. In severely infected field follow soil fumigation with suitable nematicide.
