Bacterial blight

Caused by: Xanthomonas campestris
Problem Category: Bacterial Disease
Symptoms: It’s a highly destructive bacterial disease yellow to straw coloured Water-soaked, translucent yellow streaks appear on the leaf tips and margins Bacterial ooze - In early mornings with high humidity, milky or yellowish droplets form on the surface of the lesions observed. In severe cases leaves roll up, turn grey, foliage withers and plants die. In matured plants panicle dry up with chaffy grains.
Comments: Favourable Conditions: High humidity, splashing rains and high temperature predisposes the rice crop to heavy infection.
Management: 1. Resistant Varieties: Swarna(MTU-7029), MTU-1262, Akshaya(BPT-2231) 2. Maintaining shallow water in nursery beds. 3. Restricting water flow from infected field to new field. Providing good drainage during severe flooding.
Control: 4. Take one litre vermiwash and 0.5 litre cattle urine diluted in 10 litre water and spray. 5. Basil, betelvine and parijatha (Nyctanthes) 5% leaf extract equal quantities control the disease.
