Tungro

Caused by: Rice tungro bacilliform virus (RTBV)
Problem Category: Viral Disease
Symptoms: The diseased plants exhibit orange yellow discoloration of leaves from the tip down wards. The young leaves show mosaic mottling. The plants are dwarfed with poor tillering and become sterile. Infected leaves dry up quickly.
Comments: Vector: Green plant hopper (Nephotettix virescens, N nigropictus)
Management: 1. Grow resistant varieties like IR-20, Ratna etc., 2. Manage leaf hoppers by establishing light traps.
Control: 3. Spraying 2% neem oil/Neemastram /neem based formulations to repel the sucking pest. 4. Spray 5%vitex decoction to control leaf hoppers.
